Week 3 – Loving Self-Sacrificially / Trust.

How can we overcome to victory?

Pray, look carefully at the following passages, and indicate what stands out to you, or what to you seems to have greater emphasis.

More from Jesus’ Sermon on the Mount:

Matthew 6:

24 “No one can serve two masters; for either he will hate the one and love the other, or he will hold to one and despise the other. You cannot serve God and mammon (riches).

25 “For this reason I say to you, do not be anxious for your life, as to what you shall eat, or what you shall drink; nor for your body, as to what you shall put on. Is not life more than food, and the body more than clothing?

26 “Look at the birds of the air, that they do not sow, neither do they reap, nor gather into barns, and yet your Heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not worth much more than they?

27 “And which of you by being anxious can add a single cubit to his life’s span?

28 “And why are you anxious about clothing? Observe how the lillies of the field grow; they do not toil nor do they spin,

29 yet I saw to you that even Solomon in all his glory did not clothe himself like one of these.

30 “But if God so arrays the grass of the field, which is alive today and tomorrow is thrown into the furnace, will He not much more do so for you, O men of little faith?

31 “Do not be anxious then, saying, ‘What shall we eat?’ or ‘What shall we drink?’ or ‘With what shall we clothe ourselves?’

Matthew 6:

32 “For all these things the Gentiles eagerly seek; for your heavenly Father knows that you need all these things.

33 “But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added unto you.

34 “Therefore do not be anxious about tomorrow; for tomorrow will care for itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own.

Matthew 19:

29 “And everyone who has left houses or brothers or sisters or father or mother or children or farms for My name’s sake, shall receive many times as much, and shall inherit eternal life.

Matthew 24:
23 “Then, if anyone says to you, ‘Behold, here is the Christ,’ or ‘There He is,’ do not believe him.

24 “For false Christs and false prophets will arise and show great signs and wonders, so as to mislead, if possible, even the elect.

25 “Behold, I have told you in advance.

26 “If therefore they say to you, ‘Behold, He is in the wilderness,’ do not go forth, or, ‘Behold, He is in the inner rooms,’ do not believe them.

Matthew 25:
31 “But when the Son of Man comes in His glory, and all the angels with Him, then He will sit on His glorious throne.

32 “And all the nations will be gathered before Him; and He will separate them from one another, as the shepherd separates the sheep from the goats;

33 and He will put the sheep on His right, and the goats on the left.

34 “Then the King will say to those on His right, ‘Come, you who are blessed of My Father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world.

35 ‘For I was hungry, and you gave Me something to eat; I was thirsty, and you gave Me drink; I was a stranger, and you invited Me in;

36 naked, and you clothed Me; I was sick, and you visited Me; I was in prison and you came to Me.’

37 “Then the rightous will answer Him, saying, ‘Lord, when did we see You hungry, and feed You, or thirsty, and give You a drink?

38 “And when did we see You a stranger, and invite You in, or naked, and clothe You?

39 “And when did you see You sick, or in prison, and come to You?”
40 “And the King will answer and say to them, ‘Truly I say to you, to the extent that you did it to one of these brothers of Mine, even the least of them, you did it to Me.’

41 “Then He will also say to those on His left, ‘Depart from Me, accursed ones, into the eternal fire which has been prepared for the devil and his angels;

42 for I was hungry, and you gave Me nothing to eat; I was thirsty, and you gave Me nothing to drink;

43 I was a stranger, and you did not invite Me in; naked, and you did not clothe Me; sick, and in prison, and you did not visit Me.’

44 “Then they themselves also will answer, saying, ‘Lord, when did we see you hungry, or thirsty, or a stranger, or naked, or sick, or in prison, and did not take care of You?’

45 “Then He will answer them, saying, ‘Truly I say to you, to the extent that you did not do it to one of the least of these, you did not do it to Me.’
46 “And these will go away into eternal punishment, but the righteous into eternal life.”

Matthew 9:

11 And when the Pharisees saw this, they said to His disciples, “Why is your Teacher eating with the tax-gatherers and the sinners?”

12 But when He heard this, He said, “It is not those who are healthy who need a physician, but those who are sick.

13 “But go and learn what this means, ‘I desire compassion, and not sacrifice,’ for I did not come to call the righteous, but sinners.

One last evidence of trust in overcoming, shown in actions of one taking care of another.

Who remembers Jesus’ story of the Good Samaritan?

See Luke 10:25-37

Jenga Game: Remove blocks from the tower until it collapses.

What causes YOU to worry?

Bad weather?

Mean people?

Loss of friends?

Loss of money?

Loss of job?

Loss of home?

Loss of family?

Loss of health?

What foundation is still solid at the end of all this?
